  • Philanthropy

    What is a Philanthropy?

Philanthropy is the act of improving the welfare of those less fortunate than us. Panhellenic holds and participates in many exciting events to raise awareness of important issues and to pursue a well rounded college atmosphere.

Panhellenic holds many different philanthropies, including our annual Cook-Off and Greek Week. With the help of UCSD's Interfraternity Council, the Greeks are able to raise awareness and funds for a charity of choice each year. Friendly competition helps the participating chapters strive to do good in every event. Not only do philanthropies benefit charity, but they help unite and diversify the spirit of our organization.

In addition to the Panhellenic sponsored events, each sorority looks forward to their annual philanthropies. Greeks and non-Greeks alike enjoy the variety of events held throughout the year.

The UCSD Panhellenic Council’s philanthropy is the Friends of Scott Foundation. They provide support and advocacy to children and families suffering from the effects of cancer.

    Greek Week

What Greek Week is All About?

Greek Week strives to not only celebrate Greek unity but to raise awareness about the Greek community. This is our time to come together, support each other, and make a positive difference in the community. UCSD Greek Week is an annual competition where sororities and fraternities are grouped into teams and compete in various relays, singing, dancing and other competitions held within the week. The purpose of Greek Week is to raise funds for a charity of choice and bring our large Greek community together. Each year Greek Week ends with a Talent Show celebration, where teams compete by demonstrating various talents and finishes by announcing the team with the most points from the entire week.

Many of the week's events will provide an opportunity for the greek community to engage in healthy competition. The chapters from the Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and Multicultural Greek Council are organized into teams composed of three or four chapters each. The chapters will be awarded points for the events they attend and the teams will compete against each other for points in each event. It's a time for greek men and women to work together as teammates and to get to know people outside of their organizations. Panhellenic looks forward to celebrating the amicable dynamic of UCSD Greek Life.
