    crestKappa Alpha Theta

Zeta Rho, University of California at San Diego

Founded in 1870 as the first Greek-letter fraternity for women, Kappa Alpha Theta seeks to provide the finest and most rewarding membership experience. Our purpose is to support members in education, growth, and personal excellence through sisterhood, scholarship, service, and leadership. As the foundation of our diverse programming, these core values promote balance and excitement in every Theta experience!

The ladies of Kappa Alpha Theta do it all! Many of our members are actively involved in extra-curricular activities such as Greek and non-Greek leadership positions, jobs, and athletics. We also currently hold the Highest Scholarship Award from the annual Greek Awards. With balance as an integral part of Kappa Alpha Theta, we highly value socials such as themed exchanges with fraternities, quarterly formals, and of course, sisterhoods! From weekly dinners to snowboarding sisterhoods in Lake Tahoe, and from camping on the beach to running in the La Jolla Half Marathon, Thetas continually show their enthusiasm for life and love for each other. We also have a blast excelling in Inter-Sorority Sports, recently securing 1st Place for Sports Banner at the 2007 Greek Awards.

Kappa Alpha Theta takes great pride in its national philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). As advocates for abused and neglected children in the foster care system, CASA volunteers are trained to serve as mentors to the children and speak on their behalf in court. This year we raised money for CASA through our signature philanthropic fashion show, KATwalk—an event that brings all Greek, athletic, cultural, and academic campus organizations together.

Our chapter at UCSD offers $1,000 in need and merit based scholarships, and all of our members are encouraged to apply. Every member also has the opportunity to apply for graduate and undergraduate scholarships through the Kappa Alpha Theta nationals. Since 1960, over 5 million dollars have been awarded. Kappa Alpha Theta truly believes that our members are “Thetas for a lifetime” as the women, the experiences, and the ideals that are brought together by this organization will remain with every member, shaping the person she will become.
